About Mission Beach

In San Diego communities, Makello supports non-profit organizations with grant and program funded community development.  For example, in Southeastern San Diego Chollas Creek, Makello supports Groundwork San Diego with community education at Plug-In Vehicle events, city planning committee meetings, and presentations. Makello educates staff, parents, and students about Plug-In Vehicles, Solar Power, and Energy Storage. Visit our grants page for updates about a multi-million dollar win for San Diego!

Mission Beach

Mission Beach is a community built on a sandbar, and spans about two miles of oceanfront between Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean.  It is bounded by Pacific Beach on the north and the San Diego River estuary on the south. A boardwalk runs along both the bay and ocean sides that bikers, walkers and others enjoy. Belmont Park and SeaWorld are popular attractions in Mission Bay. Mission Boulevard is the main road that goes through the city, and it is lined with many cafes, beach shops, and other small stores.

Communities

Mission Beach is an urban community with many residents in their late 20s to 30s. Renters occupy about 80% of homes, and singles occupy about half of all households. Multi-unit apartments and condos are popular residences in Mission Beach. Walking, biking, and public transportation are popular forms of transportation, and many residents live in close enough proximity to their work to rely on these transportation methods. The zip code in Mission Beach is 92109.

People

Mission Beach residents value education and creativity, and they enjoy being sociable. Many are attending college or recently graduated and are striving to acquire social status. They are risk takers and hard workers, willing to work long hours to reach their goals. Residents here are environmentally conscious and make well informed decisions on purchases. They use their computers and phones for all types of activities such as work, socializing, shopping, and entertainment.

Environment

Fortunately, Mission Beach has low air pollution scores as calculated by CalEnviroScreen. Areas with high pollution scores are more vulnerable to pollution related issues, and high rates of dust and pollen particles may help the spread of viruses.

Climate Equity Index

Climate Equity Index refers to the opportunity communities have to combat environmental justice and social equity concerns. Climate Equity is moderate throughout Mission Beach, and residents may benefit from incentive opportunities to alleviate the cost of green technologies while striving for environmental justice.

Energy Independence

Many residents and business owners in Mission Beach are interested in utilizing technology that is eco-friendly and improves quality of life.
