Lakeside

Lakeside is a census designated place in the western foothills of the Cuyumaca Mountains. The population is roughly 20,000, and it covers just over 7 square miles. Many residents enjoy the rural and family oriented lifestyle away from the bustle of the city. There are many ranches and horse owners, as well as opportunity for outdoor recreation. Lakeside has many parks and reservoirs that are popular destinations for fishing, biking, hiking, and equestrian riding. It is also in close proximity to multiple native American reservations and their accompanying casinos.

Communities

The homes in Lakeside are in a more rural community in the foothills of the Cuyamaca mountains, however it has become more suburbanized throughout the years. Horse ownership is relatively high throughout the community, and there is still a decent amount of small scale farming. The homes are predominantly single family homes, and those that aren’t single family homes are usually mobile homes. Over half of the households are occupied by married couple families, with or without children. A majority of the homes were built between 1970 and 2000. The zip code that encompasses Lakeside is 92040.

People

Lakeside residents are well educated and very do-it yourself-oriented. Over half of the people in Lakeside have attended college or have a college degree, and they live an active yet modest lifestyle. Many residents are approaching retirement, but still continue working. A higher than average amount of people work from home, but those that don’t have about a 30 minute commute to their work location on average. These community members value land, and are more likely to invest in real estate than the stock market. They enjoy maintaining their gardens, working on home improvement projects, and home cooked meals.

Environment

Lakeside has many areas with medium pollution scores and low incomes as calculated by CalEnviroScreen, representing a population vulnerable to pollution related issues.  High rates of dust and pollution particles in disadvantaged communities may increase the spread of viruses, worsening the COVID-19 crisis in communities with already low defenses. Additionally, many parts of the area lie in high fire threat districts. These environmental qualities could qualify some residents for rebates and incentives for Solar Power, Plug-In Vehicles (and EV Charging), or Energy Storage installations, lowering the cost of these installations.

Solar Irradiance

Lakeside has excellent solar irradiance, making adoption of solar technology a wise investment, with fast payback in as little as 3 years for cash purchase, or cash-flow positive monthly loan paymentsSee how much you can save.

Adoption Rate

Solar energy adoption rates in Lakeside are estimated to be between 10% and 20% of homes having solar photovoltaic (PV) panel installations.

Energy Independence

Many residents and business owners in Lakeside are interested in utilizing technology that is eco-friendly and improves quality of life. Solar energy systems are increasingly affordable, especially after energy efficiency measures reduce use, and incentives and financing options reduce the up front cost. Installing solar energy helps reduce energy costs while creating energy independence, which is especially useful during the peak use hours, rolling brown outs, or planned power outages.
